Star Sapphires: Chapter 1

Tania looked back at Seraph in confusion. "Sera, what are you talking about? These..." she stopped as the four fronds of a half dozen pods all opened up with a sickly wet slurping sound. She pulled her pink high heeled boots at the muck that hid beneath the layer of fog. Realizing quickly that, without her Amazon strength, Tania was not going to be able to run down the long room to the far door without some help.

"Sera, what are these things?" Tania asked. Her blue eyes peered into the foggy shadows as she brought her clenched fist up to brandish her power ring. With a wet sucking sound, she brought one boot up out of the syrupy green-gray muck and looked at her foot dripping with it. The smell of it was awful...but strange. Tania blinked her blue eyes a few times and turns towards Seraph as one of the pods fully opened up.

Her eyes went wide as she saw a strange little creature crawl out of the pod, its body still glistening with fluids from within the leathery sac. It had a central body about six by six inches across with three strange arms, each one of three segments, long and angular like a crab might have, ending with clawed tips. The thing has a tail which it seemed to be curling beneath it. The tail was about two feet long, segmented and the last segment was like a thicker knob.

"That tail, it is curling the tail beneath it..." Tania said a moment before the tail suddenly snapped straight and the creature flew through the air. The six legs were all spread wide as it flew across the room, past Sera who had not been facing it, and towards Tania's face.

Her ring flared a bright pink and a net, like a person might use to fish with, appeared and caught the creature, its six legs and tail thrashing just like a fish might have done. Calmly, like the experienced warrior she was, Tania looked around and saw other pods almost open. "I see what you mean, we have to get out of here," she said as her body took on a pink glow and she forced her glistening, dripping boots out of the muck. As she brought the net closer, Tania wanted to see the little creature. The legs and tail were still thrashing, but in the pink net, it was completely trapped. Tania brought it closer and saw, where its belly was, a thick knobby protrusion on the bottom half and the top half was filled with tiny little holes in the dark green skin.

"What in Hades name are th..." Tania said softly as she peered at the bottom of the snapping creature. Suddenly, the holes opened up and with a harsh FFSSHHH!! sound, a dull green gas burst from the dozen holes and engulfed Tania's face.
Sera spun around just in time to see Tania catch the Minyak in her hands. She reached out in shock, to help her friend but her boots stuck fast. "Tania don't!" She called out just as the creature released the jets of gas into the Amazon's face. With a tremendous effort Sera pulled one of her legs free and lurched toward Tania, inhaling a deep breath and holding it before moving in close to the gaseous cloud that surrounded her friend.

Reaching out with both hands Sera grabbed the Minyak from behind, clutching it with the well trained hands of someone who had handled them before. Her fingers pressed the creatures legs into it's stomach, pinning them to it's body. Spinning around she threw the beast into the air and raised her ring. With a flash of pink energy, fueled by the love for her friend, 6 miniature pink darts flew from her ring and perforated the creature's body, pinning it to the celeing. It screeched and wailed, thrashing against the spikes before finally going limp with a hiss.

"It's a gas. I makes you not want to fight the Minyak...just want to give into it" Sera explained, reaching out for Tania's shoulder. "Breathe deeply now, you should be ok. One dose usually dosenGGLLKKKK!!!"

The Avani woman lurched forward as another Minyak slammed into her, latching onto her lower back. She felt something poke into the small of her back, something dull like a thick finger poking at her from the belly of the Minyak. Her ring flared again but at the last second, from ahead she saw another Minyak coming at her face, legs spread wide. Instead of the one on her back, the earthling Star Sapphire had to bring her ring up and send another arrow flying into the belly of a Minyak. Pink flared across the room in the wake of the arrow that pierced the little monster as it disappeared into the muck.

"These things do not give up!" she said as her fist pointed at another and, as the other arrows flickered out one at a time, she formed a new arrow to kill the one about to spring at her from yet another pod. "Well enough, neither will we give up. It looks like we have them as long as they cannot gas our..."

A pink net materialized out of thin air and launched forward toward the creatures just as they flung themselves into the air. The two Minyak were instantly snared in the netting as it wrapped around them and began to constrict. The net drew tighter and tighter, crushing the two aliens until they exploded into little more than green gore.

"Ugh...nasty" She grimaced.

Looking back over her shoulder to Tania she saw her struggling with one of the creatures on her back. She moved as quickly as she could toward her friend. "Hang on!" She called out. When she finally reached Tania she reached out with both hands toward the creature attached to her back. It hissed and writhed angrily as Sera began to pull on it, lashing it's tail back and forth, trying to drive it between the Amazon's chenched cheeks.

"Almost got...it...." Sera grunted as she began pulling with all her might.

The Minyak's legs began releasing Tania's waist inch by inch, trying desperatly to hold on. After a few seconds of violent pulling, Sera finally managed to pull the creature off of Tania's back. But before she could pull it far enough out to get the tail free the creature hissed loudly. It spasmed in both of her hands and lurched as it released a payload of the green gas right into Sera's face. She winced and braced herself for the blast, but the sickly sweet smell filled her nose and did it's job.

Sera shook her head from side to side again, trying to clear it from the shroud brought on by the gas. She knew she couldn't take too many more doses. "Sera! Get out! Fly...take to the air and get out before..."
